The waiting time in the emergency room Leiria Hospital On Monday, it exceeded 27 hours. The hospital center speaks of an unforeseen event on the scale that led to a lack of doctors during the day.
It is not a unique case, but Paulo Marques’ wife will be one of the patients who waited the longest at Leiria Hospital. Pain in her lower back and leg took her to the emergency room where she arrived mid-afternoon on Sunday, however, almost 28 hours later it had still not been answered.
Without being attended to, the patient left the emergency department during the early hours of Monday, but the pain forced her to return early in the morning.
According to statements by Paulo Marques, the patient’s husband, to SIC, upon his return found exactly the same patients waiting with whom he had been with hours before.
“They only saw her temperature, nothing else. They had to check if she had a fever, if she didn’t and no doctor saw her. She’s still in pain”, laments her husband.
“I’m going to have to take her without assistance”
In the emergency department, the concern was shared by the families of several patients who were waiting to be treated. After waiting 10 hours, Raúl decided to take his mother-in-law back home. Here too, the patient had a yellow bracelet.
“She wasn’t seen by any doctor, they didn’t give her food, they didn’t ask her anything and I’m going to have to take her without assistance. I’ve already called the PSP to identify the doctors and nurses for abandonment, I’m going to file a complaint for abandonment”, says Raúl .
In response to SIC, the local health unit speaks of a lack of doctors during this Monday’s shifts, a situation that was caused by unforeseen emergencies.
The high influx of users is also mentioned, a scenario that was not seen by those who spent part of the morning in the hospital.
