In total there are 35 events, with different forms of cultural expression ranging from music to cinema, including exhibitions and debates. With several stages, the celebratory program for April 25th was presented this Tuesday, a “more robust, richer and more diverse program, especially because we are celebrating fifty years of the revolution”.

It was with this motto that Paulo Lopes Silva presented this year’s edition of “Abri com cantigas do Maio”, in the middle of Café Milenário, overlooking Largo do Toural, the city’s central square that has “a fundamental symbolism for what was the 25th of April in Guimarães”.

Once again, the programming is carried out in conjunction with the Municipal Council of Guimarães and several Guimarães institutions, repeating what is, in the councilor’s opinion, “a model of success”: “This scope allows us to have a programming richer and a more concentrated program”, he says.

The program highlights the solemn session of the Municipal Assembly at 11 am on April 25th, at Teatro Jordão, with the commemorative concert of April 25th taking place at the same time, promoted by Banda das Taipas at Largo Condessa do Juncal. In the afternoon, at the Jardim da Alameda bandstand, there is the ’50 anos de Abri’ concert with the participation of several artists.

Before that, in a program that extends well beyond the 25th of April, the Martins Sarmento Society begins to promote a cycle of conferences called ‘Conversas em Liberdade’ and the Cineclube, in addition to screening films, will “present a little known to Santos Simões, as a photographer”, highlighted Carlos Mesquita. The president of the Cineclube highlighted that “Santos Simões took very good photographs and the idea is to put this work on display, and in a catalogue, not because he was Santos Simões, but because he was an excellent photographer”.

On the 18th, a ten-meter plastic arts mural will be created in Toural, the “process of which will be public”, explained Torcato Ribeiro. This mural “will not be closed”, being open to public participation, being an initiative organized by the Centro Infantil e Cultural de Guimarães.

This Wednesday, guided tours and consultation of documents about the 25th of April will take place at the Alfredo Pimenta Municipal Archive, with free entry, with the exception of the concerts ‘Sons da Liberdade’ and ‘Sons de Abril’, the latter being commented on by António Vitorino D’Almeida on April 19th.
