April with uncertain weather. The end of the week will be warmer but the rain returns | Meteorology

It’s best to have your umbrella and coat handy in the first week of April. Forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) indicate that the weather will continue to be rainy this Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures rise at the end of the week, mainly on Friday, but a further drop in temperatures is expected for the weekend, with precipitation occurring throughout the territory.

“Today [terça-feira], precipitation is expected to occur from the afternoon onwards, especially in the North and Center regions and with more intensity in Minho. The wind could be strong and gusty, up to 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) on the north and central coast and 95 km/h in the highlands”, explains Madalena Rodrigues, meteorologist on duty at IPMA. This Tuesday there will be yellow warnings for precipitation and gusts of wind, from 12pm to 6pm, “for the Douro Litoral and especially in Minho”.

The days that follow see a “gradual rise in temperature until Friday”, with a decrease in the intensity of wind and precipitation. Between Wednesday afternoon and Friday, no precipitation is expected. “Friday will be the day with the highest temperatures. We are talking about temperatures between 25 and 26 degrees, in the southern region and practically throughout the country. The only exception is the interior, which must be between 18 and 22 degrees”, describes the meteorologist. Everything indicates that we will have the passage of a dust cloud again, however, “it is nothing special and will continue to be updated”.

However, the weather will change again at the end of Friday. The approach of a new frontal system leads to a “significant drop in temperatures” and the occurrence of precipitation, mainly on Saturday. “On the 6th and 7th of April we will have a descent between 4 and 6 degrees. On Saturday, more intense precipitation is expected and on Sunday the intensity decreases. From the 8th onwards, a small increase in temperature values ​​is expected but it is still early”, adds Madalena Rodrigues.

The situation is “normal for the beginning of April”. During the week, “several frontal swells” are expected to pass, which imply that the weather will be more unstable, with “a record of precipitation, more cloudiness and also open, sunny conditions”. Although the weather will be warmer and more inviting at the end of the week, it is best to take precautions and not pack your winter clothes just yet.
