Cinema, music, art, performance. Independent House marks the revolution

From floor to roof, freedom will occupy Casa Independente. Until April 30th, the program Democratic Surgery Service invokes reflection, memory, struggle and resistance. It includes artistic installations, film cycles and a concert.

Curated by filmmaker Renata Sancho, the film cycle Vejam Bem starts this Tuesday, April 2nd, and aims to create a space for thought in which issues related to April 25th, 1974 are introduced, such as the independence of former colonies. The Lurking Fear, Another way of fighting It is Of Weapons and Luggage are some of the films shown. The sessions take place every Tuesday, from 9pm until the 30th, and are complemented by a conversation with the cycle’s curator. Entry is free.

On the night of April 24th to 25th, the program takes to the streets. In Largo do Intendente, on the facade of Casa Independente, from 11.30 pm onwards, analogue videomapping is presented. By Your Free Thought, which features the participation of Aurora Valdez and Cally, consists of a durational and multidisciplinary performance that seeks to summon the public to the fight against a false democracy and, at the same time, to struggle and resistance, in light of the departure of the Casa Independente project from building where it is currently located. After midnight, back home, Bruno Huca gives a concert. Once again, entry is free.

Throughout the entire month, artistic interventions and installations cover the association’s spaces. They reflect today’s struggles that have remained relevant since 1974, and address topics such as colonialism, censorship, torture, exile and the feminist struggle.

Every Friday and Saturday in April, the regular schedule remains, so you can count on the usual DJ sets.
