In Porto, group 1143 will gather at Praça de D. João I, at 5 pm. DN knows that at least nine vans are already reserved with participants from Lisbon, Algarve, Aveiro, Coimbra and other areas of the country. According to Mário Machado, it will be the “first nationalist demonstration in the city of Porto, since the 1974 Coup”. A song was created especially for the date: “We say no to immigration, close the borders once and for all.”

Social networks are the main channel for promoting the event, with videos that reach thousands of people. Miguel Morato is one of those responsible for marketing and calls himself “Minister of Propaganda of group 1143” and the “Goebbels” of the organization, in reference to Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Government, in Germany.

One of the videos published on Morato’s TikTok account was deleted by the platform, a measure he classified as “censorship” on a “communist” platform. In another publication, Morato calls on participants with supremacist and fake news rhetoric. “Do not be afraid, we are more and stronger than everyone, we are Portuguese with pride in our nationality, pure blood and not with a purchased Citizen Card, who come here for our country to receive subsidies while we have to work for them. pay for the luxuries they use,” he said.

Remember that according to official statistics from the Immigration in Numbers Report, immigrants contributed to Social Security seven times more than they received: 1.8 million euros in 2022 and benefited from 275 thousand euros in social subsidies.

The 1143 group has been growing in recent months across the country, installing large banners of racist phrases and stickers throughout the streets and on traffic signs and, in February, held a protest in Lisbon against the presence of immigrants. The initial proposal was to hold a march in the Martim Moniz neighborhood, where a large number of foreigners live. However, due to the high security risk, authorization was not granted.

The nationalists did not give up and changed the location of the protest, which went from Largo de Camões to Lisbon City Hall, with torches and bonfires. Nazi salutes, singing of the national anthem and racist phrases marked the demonstration.
