Chamber holds public auction for sales outlets at the Coimbra Municipal Market

The Coimbra City Council will move forward with a new public auction for the allocation of sales spaces in the D. Pedro V Municipal Market. The event will take place next Wednesday, April 10th, at 10 am, at Salão Nobre dos Paços of the Municipality. This initiative comes after two public auctions were held in 2023 and another two in 2022.

In total, 36 sales spaces will be put up for bid, distributed among seven stores and 29 stalls dedicated to the sale of fresh fish and vegetables. The minimum value for bidding was set at 50 euros for indoor stores and 25 euros for newsstands. The duration of concessions varies between four and six years.

The available stores cover various sectors of activity, including butchers, grocery stores, wine stores, bakeries, pastry shops, dairy products, food and non-food products, frozen and processed fish, snack bars/restaurants, among others. Of the stalls up for bid, 18 are intended for the sale of vegetables and 11 for the sale of fresh fish.

This initiative by the Chamber appears as an integral part of the municipal strategy to transform the D. Pedro V Municipal Market into a reference space for cultural and social entertainment in the city. The success of the last public auctions, combined with the opening of new stores and the operation of the restaurant and leisure areas, made it possible to increase the diversity of commercial activity, thus expanding the offer to consumers.

The base value of the concessions will be maintained, aiming to guarantee the attraction of investors. So far, the public auctions carried out have resulted in the concession of 42 stores and 13 stalls. Each natural or legal person may purchase up to a maximum of two concessions for sales locations in the D. Pedro V Municipal Market, taking into account the concessions already held in the same space.
