The health insurers Grupo Ageas Portugal, Multicare, Generali Tranquilidade and Aegon Santander Portugal Não Vida, are the founding members of MovSaúde, a non-profit association whose main objective is to promote health and prevent cancer, with a focus on cancer. digestive

MovSaúde aims to be a national reference in health promotion and cancer prevention, particularly colorectal cancer, the first in number of new cases and second in number of deaths in Portugal, and to encourage research.

The priority in this start-up phase is screening for colorectal cancer, in order to reduce the number of diagnoses at more advanced stages and focusing on early diagnosis.

The promoters explain that colorectal cancer screening, through national campaigns and various local initiatives, will follow the methodology currently recommended by the SNS and is aimed at users in general, and it is not necessary to have health insurance.

MovSaúde intends to start covering 85% of the country’s municipalities in the initial phase, including the islands of Madeira and the Azores.

“MovSaúde reflects the sense of responsibility of several entities in adding value to the healthcare system in Portugal, focusing on prevention and early diagnosis, promoting quality of life. We believe that we are creating a differentiating and cohesive model that will also allow us to influence the individual responsibility of each citizen towards their health, with benefit for the system as a whole”, says Patrícia Ramalho, spokesperson for MovSaúde.

In addition to the Founding Associates, MovSaúde’s Statutes also provide for two more categories of Associates, promoting active multisectoral participation, as well as public and private Institutional Partners and Social Impact Partners.

Until the end of the first semester, MovSaúde will be focused on attracting new Associates and Partners, expanding the network and implementing protocols and partnerships.
