In the first briefing of the Council of Ministers of the XXIV Constitutional Government, Leitão Amaro highlighted that the new Executive met “12 hours after the Government was sworn in” to begin preparing the Government program, which should be presented on April 10th. A document from a “humble and dialogue-driven Government that proposes a structural transformation of the country in four and a half years”, he stated.

Leitão Amaro added that the meeting also served to take the first decisions of the XXIV Constitutional Government. “The minister of justice was mandated to initiate, shortly after the inauguration, a dialogue with all parties with parliamentary seats and all sectors of civil society, to promote an effective and consensual package of measures to combat corruption”, he announced, as the Prime Minister had mentioned in his inauguration speech.

In addition to this topic, the meeting served to recover the image of the Portuguese Republic. “Symbols that had been removed, such as the armillary sphere with shield, corners and castle”, highlighted the new minister, considering them as “essential symbols”.

The first meeting of the Council of Ministers of the XXIV Constitutional Government began at 8:30 am this Wednesday. During the morning, there was also room for the new executive to take a family photo in a good mood. The Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, still participated in this first meeting and in the traditional family photo, but left the São Bento Palace early to participate in the NATO meeting in Brussels, where he is making his debut as governor.

On the first day of the Government in full office, there is also a change in the logo of the press conference room at the Palácio de São Bento and the new Executive’s social networks. Luís Montenegro promised and fulfilled by recovering the image used by the Government of Pedro Passos Coelho. However, it maintained the designation “Portuguese Republic”.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, yesterday swore in the Prime Minister and the 17 ministers of the Government formed by PSD and CDS, where he recalled that the country chose to give victory to the “moderates” and not to the “radicals”. In the Ambassadors’ Room at the Ajuda National Palace, Montenegro challenged the PS not to act as a “blockade” and warned that the country does not have “full coffers”.
