Five individuals, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested in Madeira “for possession of prohibited weapons and/or possession of bladed weapons (without defined application), which could potentially be used for the purposes of aggression”, announced the PSP, this afternoon, in a statement.

These arrests took place as part of a series of inspection actions in the city of Funchal, especially aimed at the possession and use of bladed and/or prohibited weapons, carried out in March.

According to a police statement, “these actions, which involved the involvement of various police forces, were carried out in nightlife areas, sensitive urban areas and in places associated with the consumption and trafficking of narcotic substances in the city of Funchal. ”.

Among the 5 weapons seized, the police highlight the illegal possession of an extendable baton (blunt metal object) as well as homemade bladed weapons.

All detainees, resident in Funchal, were presented to the Judicial Court of this city, for the application of coercive measures, pending the continuation of the investigations in freedom.

Concluding the statement, the Regional Command of the PSP of Madeira “recommends to all citizens or victims that, whenever they are aware of suspicious situations or related to the practice of these illicit acts, they contact, as soon as possible and by any means, any PSP Police Station in order to trigger police intervention in a timely manner and in favor of better service to the community”.
