The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) seized more than four tons of meat products unfit for consumption, after executing search warrants, the entity said in a statement.

Thus, ASAE, “through the Southern Regional Unit – Santarém Operational Unit, carried out, at the end of last week, the execution of four search warrants, carried out within the scope of combating the crime of clandestine slaughter and marketing of abnormal foodstuffs damaged or corrupt, in the municipalities of Batalha and Caldas da Rainha”, he indicated.

This action resulted in “the seizure of 4,260 kg of meat products, namely sheep carcasses, frozen sheep meat and frozen chicken, with an approximate value of 21,130.00 euros”, said the organization.

Furthermore, within the scope of this action, “and after carrying out an examination, the meat products were sent for destruction or animal feed, according to the analysis carried out”.

ASAE highlighted that “it will continue to develop inspection actions, within the scope of its competences, throughout the national territory, in favor of healthy and fair competition between economic operators, in safeguarding food safety and public health of consumers”.
