The city of Funchal dawned today transformed into a “literary paradise”, where the magic of books was within the reach of at least a hundred people.

This is because, in celebration of World Book Day, the municipality of Funchal distributed 100 books at various strategic points in the city. “This action was a celebration of the importance of reading and an invitation for citizens to immerse themselves in the world of literature”, as highlighted by the municipality in a statement. The books were “carefully” chosen to captivate readers of all ages, from the charming tales of ‘The grandmother who was born twice’ to the profound reflections of ‘Lugar de Vidas’. With titles such as ‘Skylight’, ‘Ganda Livr@’ and ‘A Cabeça Muda’, literary diversity was guaranteed. The specimens were strategically placed in public places with high circulation, such as parks, squares and gardens, waiting to be discovered by those who passed by.

“This initiative reflected the commitment of the Municipality of Funchal to promoting education, culture and access to information throughout the community”, praised the CMF, which believes that “by making books more accessible, the city of Funchal has not only enriched itself intellectually its citizens, but it also cultivated the love of reading that is essential to the well-being and vitality of a community.”

This Book Day celebration invited the citizens of Funchal to explore new stories, share their discoveries and make the city even more vibrant and inspiring.
