The 8th edition of the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal Prize, organized by PortugalFoods, rewards young students who develop creative, innovative and sustainable food and beverage products. The winner of the national competition will represent Portugal in the European final. Deadline for applications ends on May 22nd.
The deadline for submitting applications for the ECOTROPHELIA Portugal 2024 Prize, which challenges young university students to develop an eco-innovative, sustainable food product or drink, with the aim of promoting innovation, entrepreneurship and competitiveness in the agri-food sector. This is the opportunity for students and researchers from the national Scientific and Technological System, organized into multidisciplinary teams, to present their projects to a pre-selection jury panel.
According to the regulations, the products in competition must be innovative and sustainable from the concept, through the formulation, the production method, the packaging and the marketing and commercial strategy, without forgetting the nutritional and sensorial dimensions.
The finalist projects, selected by a multidisciplinary jury, will be presented in the National Competition, on July 12th, and the winner will represent Portugal in the European competition. The Portuguese representation at ECOTROPHELIA has already obtained distinctions at European level, since promoting this Award (from 2017): it came out as the big winner in the 2020 edition and, in 2022, reached the second position on the podium.
Raising knowledge and recognizing the capacity for innovation, entrepreneurship and competitiveness of the national Agro-food sector is the objective of this initiative, which brings universities, polytechnics and knowledge and innovation centers closer to industry, in a logic of generating value and creating paths to future for the sector, based on sustainability.
