The Specialization Course in Maritime Studies, Strategy and Global Security has already started. The Póvoa Empresas Center hosted the first session of this joint initiative between the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, the Porto School of the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University and the Portuguese Navy. The class comprises 18 students with diverse academic experiences and knowledge.
The training will last until October and consists of four modules: Law and International Relations, coordinated by prof. doctor José Azeredo Lopes; Strategy, coordinated by prof. doctor Luís Dias Ramos; Technology, Resources and Maritime Security and Protection, coordinated by prof. Doctor Captain of Sea and War José Velho Gouveia; Economy and Sustainable Development coordinated by Dr. Miguel Marques. It was up to this Poveiro economist, specialist in maritime matters, to start the project, in a class attended by the vice-president of the Chamber. Luís Diamantino congratulated the trainees interested in learning more about the key areas linked to the “most important natural resource in the municipality” and said that this is a “pioneering initiative to affirm Póvoa de Varzim as a national maritime reference”.
