Pastelaria Switzerland has reopened in downtown Lisbon and brings the usual classics – News

Unable to open in the same space, Switzerland returned to Praça da Figueira. In a smaller store, a generous window and a large terrace stand out. Upon entering, the eye immediately falls on the tile panel designed by Viúva Lamego for the space and where the city that serves as inspiration for the concept is revealed.

The walls are dotted with images of Lisbon from the 60s and 70s and, in particular, an image of the old pastry shop. The architecture itself and the decorative details put the past and the future in dialogue, in a markedly classic atmosphere with contemporary lines and details. The new space, under the supervision of Primefood, reinterprets an emblematic Lisbon house.

Alongside many innovative options, there are those that we invariably saw on the table in “old” Switzerland. Maintaining their original recipes, the Duchesse, the Russian, the Eskimo, the Baba, the Tibia and the Jesuit are back. In addition to breakfasts and snacks, Switzerland also offers a range of light meals consisting of savory snacks, quiches and a wide range of sandwiches. There is no shortage of a selection of miniatures and chocolates.

Returning to the Swiss terrace continues to be synonymous with finding the usual presence of a shoe shiner. Paying homage to one of the oldest professions in downtown, the facade of the new store is marked by the sculpture of the brand ambassador. Mr. Vasco is an authentic Lisbon native, a pastry lover and one of the oldest experts in his craft.

At the beginning of the 1920s, the first pages of the history of Swiss Pastry were being written. On March 18, 1922, Isidro Lopes and Raul Moura completed the deed of Casa Suissa, but it was officially opened on October 21. In the 1930s, the first expansion occurred with the opening of the outdoor space, which would become one of its trademarks. In the 1950s, Casa Suissa changed its name to Pastelaria Switzerland. August 31, 2018 was a day of heartbreak for many Lisbon residents. The brand’s notoriety was not enough to keep that historic space open.

The new Switzerland is open at number 5 C in Praça da Figueira.
