Students from Escola Secundária de Fafe took the ‘Carnation Revolution’ to the streets of the city, this Wednesday, with a performance that recalled the main steps that culminated in Freedom Day on April 25, 1974.

The historical recreation illustrated four decisive moments in the events of “Operation End of Regime” carried out by the MFA.

‘No to Dictatorship’, ‘Revolution’, ‘Long Live Freedom’ were some of the slogans chanted by the students, with the carnation being the greatest symbol of this revolution.

The performance began with the “Uprising of the Quartéis”, with the Fafe Secondary School as its stage, followed by the “Confrontation of the Troops”, at the Municipal Library; the “Siege of the Carmo Barracks”, in Arcada; and, finally, “And the Future, Pá?”, at the Fafe City Council. The journey between these places was made with the April military and the people who took to the streets in their support.

The mayor of Fafe, Antero Barbosa, received the students at the Town Hall, thanking the schools for their involvement in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April in Fafe and launching the motto “so that everyone, young and old, can continue to defend the ideals of April.”

The students and teachers of the Fafe Secondary School were also joined by Cercifaf usersin the Fafe Chamber, with inclusion, equality, accessibility and respect as demands.

The initiative ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
