Several hundred people were present this afternoon on April 25th at Rossio, in Viseu, to mark 50 years of the revolution that put an end to 48 years of dictatorship in Portugal.
The gathering began at 2:30 pm in Largo de Santa Cristina, with the parade traveling along Rua Formosa, ending in the city’s main square with participants holding posters and red carnations and chanting slogans.

“A house to live in” or “Equal Rights” were phrases that could be read on some posters at the same time as slogans were chanted such as: “April 25 always, fascism never again”, “Peace yes, war no” and “the united people will never be defeated”.
In the freedom march, organized by the Union of Trade Unions, several unions and regional leaders participated who intended to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the 25th of April.

In official speeches, already on the stage set up in Rossio, Isabel Almeida took the floor to reaffirm the values of April, not without remembering that “a lot still needs to be accomplished”, namely issues of salary appreciation and pensions, as well as investment in the Service National Health Service, in public schools and in Social Security.
The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April continued with a concert by the Mirandese group Galandum Galundaina, which entertained an audience where there was a notable presence of families and a lot of young people. And it was in unison to the sound of “Grândola Vila Morena” that the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Freedom ended in Rossio.
