This Thursday, the Lisbon Court of Appeal ruled in favor of the Judicial Employees Union (SFJ) in considering that the ongoing indefinite strike should not involve minimum services, as the Ministry of Justice intended.

The Arbitration Court had decreed minimum services for the period between 5:00 pm and midnight, when employees would be providing additional work, but the SFJ appealed and the Relationship considered that nothing prevents work from being interrupted and resumed at 9:00 am the following day.

According to an SFJ source, the strike led to at least 12 detainees being released in Greater Lisbon because they could not be brought before a judge for their first interrogation within 48 hours. These are cases of drug trafficking, domestic violence and even a homicide.

The Ministry of Justice justified this situation with the fact that the SFJ had not decreed minimum services for the strike. António Marçal, from SFJ, accuses the guardianship of “pure incompetence”, stressing that “the request” for minimum services made to the arbitration college was not well founded.
