The investment in replacing LED luminaires has resulted in significant savings in the Municipality of Mealhada, both in public lighting and in private lighting. The estimate is that the municipality saved around 32 thousand euros in lighting costs in one year.
The update and modernization of LED luminaires on public roads, within the scope of the “Led Campaign”, by E-redes, resulted in the installation of 454 lamps throughout the municipality, which resulted in a reduction in energy costs estimated at around 32 thousand euros . Official data reveal a reduction in consumption of 2,352.66 MWh and a reduction in emissions of 312.18 tons of CO2.
In the Municipality of Mealhada, E-redes reached 58.6% of LED public lighting and, by 2024, it is estimated that an additional 818 LED luminaires will be installed.
To this gain for the Municipality in the cost of public lighting is added the savings obtained by replacing luminaires in various municipal equipment, from schools to sports equipment, such as pavilions and fields, and cultural facilities, such as the Luso Municipal Pavilion, the Basic School 2/3 of Pampilhosa, the Mealhada and Ventosa do Bairro school pavilions, the Carqueijo Football Field or the Cineteatro Messias.
“This concerted action by E-Redes and the Municipality reveals an optimization of resources. We made an investment of more than 100 thousand euros in installing more energy efficient systems and we believe that, in a few years, we were able to recover this investment, in addition to the environmental gains”, highlights António Jorge Franco, president of Mealhada Municipal Council.
