The first hub of the Círculo de Criação Contemporânea de Viseu (formerly the Historic Center Incubator) hosts the exhibition “Esse Caminho Longe x Liberdade” until Wednesday (May 1), promoted by the company Cem Palcos.

The show mixes theater, video and music, elements that were part of the show “Esse Caminho Longe”, inspired by the life and work of the Portuguese-Santomean poet Olinda Beja, and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.

The narratives of children born in São Tomé and Príncipe who are now adults who grew up in Portugal shaped the production by Graeme Pulleyn and Márcio Meirelles. The exhibition includes manuscripts by Olinda Beja and texts by Lígia Soares, original music by Gonçalo Alegre and videos by Leandro Valente.

The show “Esse Caminho Longe” brought together artists and creators from Africa, Latin America and Europe to explore issues of colonization, exploitation and injustice.

The exhibition is made up of four tables where there are texts by Olinda Beja, as well as blank sheets of paper and pens for anyone who wants to write.

Each table also has a television where director Leandro Valente shows images of interviews carried out with men from São Tomé and Príncipe and Portugal about their relationship with the place where they are from and the site of São Tomé. The images were collected in the process of investigation for “Esse Caminho Fare”.

The projection shows images of the show created using the voices of women from Portugal and São Tomé. The exhibition is open from 10am to 6pm on weekdays and also on weekends, by appointment.
