Cineteatro Louletano | Richard III joins Lloyd Cole and there are Secret Files on stage in May

-

May will be a full month at Cineteatro Louletano, with dance, theater, music, a kind of stand-up (but without much comedy) and an international festival.

On the 3rd, Cineteatro Louletano welcomes Ricardo III, from Companhia Terra Amarela. Shakespeare’s play, which is an international co-production, premiered in Spain, in Madrid, at the Centro Dramatico Nacional, and is performed in Portuguese Sign Language (LPG) and Spanish Sign Language (LSE), including the participation of several actors/actresses deaf. Richard III is a true propaganda document, which proves that a lie, repeated a thousand times, becomes an opportune truth. And this couldn’t be a better mirror of our days: what it seems isn’t. What is it, dry. From the stage, all the tensions, virtuosities, betrayals and poetic places, through the strength of two languages that express themselves in the power of the body – Portuguese Sign Language and Spanish Sign Language, the piece takes on the battle and the scream, deception and violence in visual and sound space. On stage, between the sound and the silence that screams, there is a rediscovery of the theatrical place as a place of astonishment. Paradoxically, the actors don’t seem like it, they are. They do not dry out, they generate a future. The piece has multiple accessibility features, including Audio Description (for the blind and people with low vision), Portuguese Sign Language, Spanish Sign Language and Subtitling.

The following day, a name that for many needs no introduction: Lloyd Cole comes to Cineteatro Louletano with an acoustic concert that is part of the international tour that brings him to Portugal.

The English singer and songwriter was part of the band Commotions, which had several hits in the 90s, including perhaps the best-known song “Jennifer She Said”. His career spans decades and the most constant factor has been the integrity of his artistic vision and a tremendous ability to not compromise the quality of his repertoire. The concert is on the 4th, at 9pm, and is sold out.

Between May 6th and 10th, Palácio Gama Lobo hosts a creative residency entitled “Irrar”, by UmColetivo. After gathering inspiration and research and creation work, “Irrar” will become a performance aimed mainly at families. On stage, there will be five performers who negotiate among themselves possibilities of making mistakes in order to love humanity, based on the literary experiences of Salette Tavares. The residence will have a series of workshops with pre-school and primary schools.

On Saturday, May 11th, journalist Luís Osório headlines a show created from his book of the same name, “Ficheiros Secretos”, delving into the recent history of Portugal and bringing to the stage memories of notable figures such as Mário Soares, José Saramago and Amália Rodrigues , between others. The show is at 9pm.

In the Portuguese parliament there is a desk in the middle of the room with nothing around it, where two employees work who have the task of transcribing everything that is said there. There are hundreds of thousands of pages that record debates, constituent assemblies, votes, advances and setbacks in social, labor and human rights. Created from these records, “Guide to a Possible Country” portrays the last fifty years of our democracy.

Then, between the 21st and 25th of May, Cineteatro Louletano presents the Festival Tanto Mar, a creation of Associação Folha de Medronho, based in Loulé, which is now in its fifth edition. The central axis involves the exchange of knowledge, experiences and memories, substantiated in training, production and co-production actions, in joint work with CPLP (Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries) groups. With a special dedication to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, Tanto Mar aims to contribute to the diversity and quality of the artistic offer in the national territory, presenting works that are based on other cultures, other aesthetic paths, which although they intersect and contaminate , maintain their own idiosyncrasies.
