Deadly hit-and-run cuts through Linha do Norte in Azambuja

The Northern Line was completely closed between 4 pm and 6.42 pm, this Friday, following a fatal collision in the Azambuja area.

The collision, which caused the death of a woman whose age has not yet been determined, occurred minutes before 4 pm, next to Azambuja Station, with the train being immobilized approximately 900 meters after the collision with the victim.

According to the Lezíria do Tejo Sub-Regional Command of Civil Protection, the alert was given at 3:54 pm and 18 operatives were mobilized to the location, supported by 7 vehicles, from the Azambuja Fire Department, INEM, GNR and Infrastructures of Portugal.

Passengers traveling in the train were forced to leave the train, having subsequently resumed their journey on alternative transport.

Train circulation was reopened at 6:42 pm, with trains running alternately in the North-South direction.
