Students from Barcelona define what constitutes mistreatment

-

In April, Child Abuse Prevention Month is celebrated, which takes us back to the Blue Ribbon Campaign that began in 1989 when a North American woman, Bonnie Finney, placed a blue ribbon on her car’s antenna in honor of her grandchildren, victims. of mistreatment, with the aim of making people question themselves about the issue. An initiative that expanded worldwide

In Portugal, the Blue Ribbon campaign is widely publicized by the National Commission and Commissions for the Promotion and Protection of Children and Young People and municipalities that carry out various actions to prevent mistreatment.

Rádio Barcelos recorded the impressions of students from 5º8 at Escola EB 2 3 Rosa Ramalho and 10ºL from Escola Secundária de Barcelos, who were asked what mistreatment is and if they know the CPCJ or the symbolism of the blue ribbon.

We started by listening to the 5th 8th grade students at Escola Rosa Ramalho

Among the 10th graders at Escola Secundária de Barcelos, few know the symbolism of the blue ribbon, but they were saying what they consider to be mistreatment

Impressions of children and young people from Barcelona in this month of prevention of abuse, in an initiative developed in partnership with the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People. Remember that mistreatment comes in different types: from physical abuse, to sexual and emotional abuse and physical or emotional neglect.

The CPCJ intervenes in a dangerous situation with the express consent of the parents or legal representative or de facto guardian and in the absence of opposition from the child or young person aged 12 years or over.

The best interests of children and young people, privacy, parental responsibility, family prevalence and mandatory information are always important.

In Barcelos, the Commission for the Protection of Children and Young People is located on Rua DR José António Peixoto Pereira Machado.
