Academic Day warns about the use of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence was the central theme of the Academic Day celebrated on Wednesday in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP). The Archbishop Primate of Braga, D. José Cordeiro, presided over the session and considered that artificial intelligence is one of the challenges facing the church and humanity. “Celebrating Academic Day in Braga is a moment of joy and showing the body we are. It is also a time to project the future, making grateful memories of the past. Current times pose many challenges to the church and humanity. Artificial Intelligence is one of these challenges”, pointed out D. José Cordeiro.

The Archbishop Primate of Braga also warned of the “huge demand for freedom in interpersonal and social relationships” and considered that “the new digital culture is part of the progress of humanity”, marking its presence, for example, in Medicine or Education. Professor João Nuno Gonçalves, from UCP, was responsible for delivering the Sapience Lesson, centered on Artificial Intelligence. He warned of the benefits and dangers of using Artificial Intelligence in the day-to-day life of society.João Duque, pro-rector of UCP. highlighted that Academic Day is the moment to celebrate the institution. “The Academic Day of the UCP Braga Campus celebrates the institution. We celebrate, first and foremost, the people who make it up, articulated in structures, spaces, dynamics and relationships”, said João Duque, remembering the 25th anniversary of the formal creation of the UCP Braga Regional Center. The session also included the awarding of several awards to students who distinguished themselves in different areas of training, performances by the Lyricists and the Academic Choir, tributes to retired employees, the holding of workshops and the performance of the Popular Singing Group.
