«The first “super-special” of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal will take place in Figueira da Foz, on the 9th of May, at 7pm, with the drivers and their respective teams spending the night in Figueira da Foz and, the following day, On the 10th, they will leave here for the special stages in the central region, namely Mortágua, Lousã, Góis and Arganil», explained Manuel Domingues, councilor with the Sports Department of the Figueirense municipality.
It should be noted that the Figueira da Foz “super-special” takes place after the symbolic departure of the Automóvel Club de Portugal (ACP) race, which takes place in Coimbra at 5 pm. Manuel Domingues recalled that «Figueira da Foz signed a three-year contract with the ACP that guarantees, precisely, the right of option until next year, inclusive».
This comes in connection with an issue raised last Tuesday, by the Coimbra City Council, which intends to recover, in 2025, the urban classification that it gave up in 2023.
«Coimbra can say whatever it wants. The municipality of Figueira has the right to choose in these three years, if it understands it it can continue to hold the “super-special” in Figueira da Foz, if it does not understand it the decision will be ours», highlighted Manuel Domingues
This assessment will be carried out in November, although Manuel Domingues has anticipated that, from the outset, the municipality of Figueira da Foz will not give up organizing the “super-special”, as Coimbra did in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Sports councilor highlighted that this year’s “super-special” will have a new layout, in the same area next to the Santa Catarina fort, comprising three roundabouts designed inside the Gaivotas Parking Lot, as if of an “eight ” if it were.
On the other hand, it will be placed in the middle of the Avenida de Espanha straight, practically in front of the bar pilots building, right after the start, in front of the Municipal Market.
