Finalists from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) filled Avenida Carvalho Araújo this morning for the mass of blessing of the folders, presided over by the bishop of the diocese of Vila Real, D. António Augusto Azevedo.
Even though the rain was a guest, there was no lack of emotion and joy.
During the homily, the bishop highlighted “those who helped you in this adventure, such as teachers and collaborators at UTAD, your friends, some of whom remain for life, your families and other people who became important in making this path easier it’s prettier”.
“At the end of your course you are the same person, but you are also different people. You are more adult people, more capable and more prepared for the challenges of the future. I am sure, as a student and teacher that I was, that it was not an easy path, but I believe that, at the end of this stage, you are better people, better professionals, on whom society can count. Citizens that the country needs to build a better future”, highlighted D. António Augusto Azevedo.
For the bishop, “the country needs to do more and better for young people, but young people can also do more and better for their country”, asking that “society and its protagonists give more and better opportunities to young people, so that they can , in your country, realize your full potential”.
Finally, D. António Augusto spoke, above all, to the displaced students. “This was your home during these years and I am sure that you will come here many times because you carry Vila Real and Trás-os-Montes in your heart. This was the house where you lived beautiful years of your lives. You can be sure that we really enjoyed having you around. Your presence gave more life to this city.”
The mass ended with the usual blessing of the folders, with the Avenue being painted in the various colors of the courses. In the afternoon, the burning of the ribbons will take place.
