Arrival of the pilgrims at the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora D’Aires, the traditional Horseback Pilgrimage that connects Moita, in Setúbal, to Viana do Alentejo, in Évora. The event, which lasted from April 23rd to 28th, marked its 22nd edition and brought together hundreds of pilgrims from different parts of the country.
This route, which covers around 150 kilometers mostly along dirt roads, is a cultural manifestation deeply rooted in the traditions of the communities, evoking the ancient cattle transhumance routes. The pilgrimage not only reinforces the ties between the populations of Moita and Viana do Alentejo, but also mixes profane elements with religious celebrations, as highlighted by the Municipality of Viana do Alentejo.
The organization of the event was a collaboration between the municipal councils of Moita and Viana do Alentejo, and also the associations of Romeiros da Tradição Moitense and Equestre de Viana do Alentejo. Rádio Campanário was present, capturing exciting images of the arrival of the pilgrims at the Sanctuary.
