A proposal to conclude an inter-administrative contract between the Municipality and the University for the creation of the Coimbra Architecture Information and Research Center (CIIAC) will be deliberated at this Monday’s Chamber meeting.

The contract will be concluded through the Municipal General Archive Division of the General Administration Department of the Chamber and the Architecture Department of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra.

The Center will bring together the documentary collections of the two entities, relating to the areas of architecture and urbanism of the city and region, with appropriate facilities sized to guarantee their security, protection, preservation and archival treatment.

Through CIIAC, the aim is to disseminate and make available to the community the documentary collections of the Chamber and the University, promoting consultation, study and research, as well as the pursuit of activities of relevant cultural, artistic and scientific interest.

Without prejudice to the possibility of other areas of collaboration, according to the proposal, the parties agree to share information, specialized technical-scientific knowledge and documentation, produced on any medium, in the fields of architecture and urbanism, for purposes of recognized and relevant cultural interest , artistic or scientific.

They also intend to collaborate in the organization of events of relevant cultural, artistic and scientific interest, in these areas, related to the research and dissemination of knowledge produced, based on documentary collections or that may be acquired.

Within the scope of the contract, the two entities will work together to locate, acquire and collect, in the different ways provided for in current legislation, new funds and collections in the fields in question, extendable to other national and international territories, to which they are attributed value and public interest, as a mechanism for the continuous enrichment of archival heritage.

To this end, the City Council of Coimbra and the University will present joint applications for national funding programs and/or co-financing programs by the European Union, both for initiatives focusing on documentary collections and for programs that foresee within their scope the design and creation of facilities equivalent to the CIIAC.
