Reparations to former colonies: right-wing criticizes Marcelo’s statements

-

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s new statements about compensation for former colonies once again generated criticism of the President of the Republic from the right. Chega will even present a request for conviction of Marcelo in the Assembly of the Republic.

Time passes and criticism of the President of the Republic, whose father was governor-general of Mozambique, increases in tone.

Criticism of the call by the head of state, 50 years after the fall of the fascist regime, to repair the former colonies.

On this matter, the Government could not be clearer. In a statement, Luís Montenegro stressed:

“There was and is not any process or program of specific actions for this purpose (…)”. The executive’s line is and will always be “deepening mutual relations, respect for historical truth and increasingly intense and closer cooperation, based on the reconciliation of brotherly peoples.”

In person, the leader of the Liberal Initiative responds, in a less than complimentary manner, to the President of the Republic.

Chega, which had already been scathing about the issue, in the formal session of April 25th in Parliament, now announces in a statement that this week.

The party led by Ventura will also call the head of national Diplomacy to the Chamber to find out if there has been or is, in this regard, any requests from Portuguese-speaking States to Portugal.
