Paulo Raimundo calls for mobilization on May 1st to show that the Government “has no free hands”

Paulo Raimundo today called for mobilization on May 1st to show the Government that “it has no free hands” and considered that the PCP’s tax proposal is the best for workers.

At a lunch commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April in Seixal, district of Setúbal, Paulo Raimundo praised the “powerful affirmation of vigor” of the popular demonstrations of the Carnation Revolution and made a strong appeal for mobilization in the May 1st gathering.

“May 1st will give a clear signal that capital, economic groups and the Government do not have their hands free to implement their project. They want, they wish, they would like to do what they want, but the workers and the people and the youth will not give them that possibility”, he defended.

In the communist leader’s opinion, “in a few days the analysis” that the PCP carried out in relation to the Government and its program was confirmed, criticizing the signals that have been given in relation to salaries, housing or the SNS.

“Tax burden stops there, tax burden stops here, but then, everything is squeezed together, the only thing they have in mind is a reduction in IRC for large companies and a reduction in taxes for large companies”, he criticized.

Regarding the controversy surrounding tax relief, Paulo Raimundo pointed out the “extraordinary operation of comparisons between the Government project and the PS project”, assuming that they are not equal despite resulting from “two main problems”, that is, clinging to the “Brussels straitjacket” and going “by the side of making those who can afford to pay more”

“Our project was approved [na generalidade]. A possibility is open to create a path towards tax justice. So here’s the challenge: those who are making paragonas, comparing the Government’s project with the PS’s project, the challenge is to compare these two projects with our project and see which is the one that benefits more those who work and who has worked a lifetime”, he challenged.

Considering that the PCP’s bill is what “responds to fiscal justice”, the communist leader asked that the Portuguese be shown that it is the communists’ initiative that “the most benefits” the workers, with the possibility of being approved once he moved on to the specialty.
