Cervejeiros de Portugal, the Municipal Council of Portalegre and DAP – Desporto e Aventura de Portalegre, organize the 3rd Edition of Beer Runners, a race that encourages physical exercise and combines the social act of sharing a beer with friends . It is the first time that the city of Portalegre hosts this race, which is scheduled for May 4th, with the opening of the venue scheduled for 9 am, next to the Municipal Market.
Aimed at all those who exercise, whether professional or amateur athletes, the sporting event returns with a 10Km running route and a 5Km walk in the city center. This year, the initiative has a great novelty, as the big winner of this competition will have the opportunity to guarantee their place in the Confraria da Cerveja, an exclusive event that promotes passion and recognition of the importance of this ancient drink, which will taking place in Portalegre, on the 9th of May, says a source from the local authority.
Registration, individual or team, must be made on the official Beer Runners website, here. These will close as soon as 200 registrants are reached.
Beer Runners
The Beer Runners movement emerged in 2007, when a group of runners from Philadelphia, in the United States, came across a study led by Professor Manuel J. Castillo-Garzón, from the University of Granada, in Spain, which concluded that beer would be a complement to the intake of antioxidants and vitamins after sports. From then on, the group started organizing races once a week, which always ended with sharing a beer.
In Spain alone, the Beer Runners community has more than 25 thousand members, spread across more than 70 local groups.
All participants who crossed the finish line had the opportunity to taste beer and non-alcoholic beer.
The first Beer Runners in Portugal took place in 2019, in Belém, Lisbon, and had close to 1,000 participants.
