ACTUAL, by publishing, on the occasion of Ovibeja, this publication that marks 10 years of the elevation of Cante Alentejano to a world heritage site, intends to associate itself with everyone who, over generations, has carried this common flag of Cante a Vozes, capable to unite us all in unison.

On November 27, 2014, at the 9th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, it unanimously voted to include Cante Alentejano on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, highlighting the exemplary candidacy presented by Portugal.

João Rocha, former president of Serpa City Council, was at the genesis of this process and wrote an article for this edition explaining the idea of the candidacy and its contours.

Taking into account the role that local authorities have played in supporting and promoting choral groups and Cante, particularly in recent years, with the introduction of Cante in schools, thus contributing to the preservation of this collective heritage, we launched the challenge to local councils from the region to share in our magazine what the classification of Cante Alentejano as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity meant for their territories.

In addition to the mayors, we also find articles signed by other entities in the region, such as António Zambujo, Francisco Torrão and Paulo Ribeiro.

The magazine also provides several QR Codes that take the reader to a set of videos where they can watch the performance of various choral groups from Alentejo.

The cover illustration is by Susa Monteiro.
