The Campus Jazz – Jazz Festival of the University of Aveiro (UA), which starts tomorrow, also aims to promote and encourage creation. There is a very diverse program with internationally renowned musicians, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of UA and 25 de Abril.
In 2024, the year in which the commemorative program for UA’s 50th anniversary takes place, under the motto “Boldness and freedom”, Campus Jazz also promises a bold program. Until May 9th, applications for new ensembles are open as part of the International Jazz Competition, one of Campus Jazz’s many initiatives. It is worth remembering that, in the third edition of this competition, in 2023, the “Best Ensemble” award was won by the Pedro Molina Quartet, which opens the festival program, as usual, on World Jazz Day, on April 30th. In fact, this performance and others – such as at Guimarães Jazz, where the quartet has already performed, and at this year’s editions of the festivals “Que jazz é este?”, “Estarrejazz” and also a performance at the Centro de Artes de Águeda, within the scope of a partnership with the municipality of Águeda – reinforce the base prize of the UA International Jazz Competition.
