The mayor did not like hearing Pedro Pires da Rosa, municipal deputy of the PS, devaluing the final point of the management of the current majority, given the inevitable change of the occupant of the presidential chair, due to reaching the term limit.

“It’s almost over. The president is leaving, everyone now knows what he proposes, what he wants for the city, what he plans. It was also truly exposed what the PS thinks of what it was doing. It wasn’t all bad, in my opinion and that of my party. Sometimes we also differ internally. Our fight now is for the future”, declared the elected socialist, already thinking about the post-Ribau Esteves.

In his response, the city council leader did not give special meaning to the countdown to leave the town hall, on the contrary. “I’m not leaving, I’ll leave on the first day after the last day of office. That’s the day I leave,” he said.

Ribau Esteves removed, moreover, any constraints on management during the remainder of the third term. “No one thinks that they limit me because I’m leaving, to see if I work less, if I don’t respond,” he guaranteed.

The mayor has everything planned so that the day of departure is after the transfer of duties. “I hope nothing bad happens to me, good things can even happen. On the day my successor takes office, whoever it may be, I will be there to honor the institution I serve. It’s only on that day that I’m leaving. Until then, I’m here, I’m working a lot and it will be like that until the end. Don’t be disturbed by this thing”, he asked, addressing the PS.

Ribau Esteves also commented on another statement by Pedro Pires da Rosa by crediting former councilor Jorge Campino, who was on the council list for 21 months of the first term of the PSD-CDS-PPM majority, before taking up a position at the Social Security Institute , the measures taken to clean up municipal finances.

“The president achieved financial recovery with a plan designed by an illustrious PSD activist, who is now a member of the Government, Secretary of State [Segurança Social], who was vice president. He contributed greatly, with a great contribution, to the development of the financial plan, which he is still implementing today”, declared the PS deputy.

Without wanting to forget the “contributions” of all his councilors throughout their mandates, the president of the Chamber corrected the socialist elected, remembering that he always had the area in question under his jurisdiction. “Everyone knows that the financial management of the Chamber and Human Resources is mine, it was mine from day one and will be mine until the end. It’s the way I work,” he said.

“All councilors were very important, without exception, in their contribution. Those who have been there for less time, like Jorge Campino, who made a very important contribution, and the others, each in their own areas. But there was never anyone else in charge of financial management, making decisions. Help ? Yes, sir, Jorge Campino was very important, but other councilors also provided help. Now we are not going to change the logic of things: I am the financial manager, in expenses, in revenue, in authorizing all expenses, there is only one manager”, concluded Ribau Esteves.
