Protocol with Pampilhosa Fishermen’s Association seeks to boost sport fishing in the municipality

The Chamber of Mealhada approved, unanimously, in a meeting of the Municipal Executive, a Cooperation Protocol with the Union of Parishes and the Sports and Cultural Association of Fishermen of Pampilhosa which aims to monitor Lakes, Lagoons and Ponds in the municipality with the aim of provide facilities for recreational and competitive sport fishing.

The protocol immediately refers to Lagoa de Antes, but will be extended to all lakes and ponds in the Municipality of Mealhada. The City Council is committed to carrying out the necessary interventions for their sporting use, as well as publicizing the rules regarding sport fishing.

The Pampilhosa Fishermen’s Sports and Cultural Association will monitor the species existing in the municipality’s water bodies, monitor all areas of the water bodies that may affect the practice of sport fishing; carry out a survey of the species existing in each body of water in the municipality and create a capture map to support species monitoring and, if necessary, promote actions to balance the percentage of predators.

It also undertakes to complete the catch map by its members who carry out sport fishing in the municipality’s water bodies and to carry out training or tests together so that the sampling of the type of species at a given moment is more accurate.
