The play written and performed by actor Ricardo Simões, also the company’s artistic director, was created based on the book “Crónicas da Guerra Colonial e do 25 de Abril” by Salgueiro Maia, but it also lives on the contributions of spectators each time it goes on stage.

According to the interpreter, the show presented this Monday at a press conference, a decade after its premiere (2014) in an old ammunition magazine (at the Santiago da Barra Fort), also in that city, is about “memory, freedom and the future ”. It always begins with a cue from one of the spectators who, in the previous presentation, contributed a story about April and the famous “captain without fear”, one of the heroes of the Portuguese revolution.

“Started ten years ago, this show is here today and will continue until a day that we cannot yet determine”, declared Ricardo Simões, “Salgueiro Maia” with whom the public will be able to “talk”. The actor said that in 2014 he wrote “a text for a monologue”, which aroused the most diverse reactions from spectators. He ended up, in an unusual way, starting to integrate his stories and conversations, mixed with passages from the work “Crónicas da Guerra Colonial e do 25 de Abril”, written by the captain and adapted for theater.

“Many of the words are from Salgueira Maia himself”, highlights the protagonist of the show, who (also) lives off improvisation.

The rerun of the play lasting around 80 minutes is now taking place, as part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the 25th of April, in the experimental room of the Sá de Miranda Municipal Theatre. It includes, in addition to English subtitles, simultaneous translation into sign language on one of the days (May 4th) and a conversation after the show (May 3rd). Sessions are scheduled for Thursday at 11 am, Friday at 9 pm, Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 4 pm. Ticket prices vary between four and ten euros.
