PSD Algarve | Appointment at ALGAR: PS makes the company a “partisan recycling center”

The PSD Algarve was surprised by the deliberation of AMAL, led by the socialist António Miguel Pina, to appoint administrator of ALGAR (selective collection and waste treatment company) of the President of Alcoutim City Council, Osvaldo Gonçalves. This way, this person in charge will leave the municipality.

In addition to the obvious issue of the commitment that remains to be fulfilled with the population of Alcoutim, especially at a time when critical dossiers with the San Lucar Bridge or the lack of doctors in the municipality are unresolved, the total lack of management skills in this area that the person concerned expresses.

Nothing in your CV gives the slightest guarantee that it can be useful to the company, on the contrary. Alcoutim represents 0.003% of its activity for ALGAR.

In 2018, a new position was created for executive member of the Board of Directors of Algar – a private company of which the 16 municipalities in the Algarve have a minority share of the share capital –, representing the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL). The reason for being was publicly explained, on June 5, 2018, Sul Informação reported that, «because the service provided by Algar was not being good, leading to frequent complaints from municipalities, in particular due to the company’s lack of responsiveness during the summer period, it was decided to open another administrator position, to be occupied by someone representative of the municipalities, but also as an executive position».

The first member appointed by the municipalities was Nuno Amorim, at the time Vice-President of the Municipal Council of Lagoa, with extensive experience in business management, waste, and a law degree. Once the position was created, said to be so necessary, nothing changed, the service got worse and the price skyrocketed.

It is known that the service that Algar provides in the treatment and collection of waste to the Algarve and the Algarve is insufficient and this has several justifications. Putting people without competence and knowledge in the area to manage the company’s destiny does not contribute to its improvement, but rather to its failure. This is the PS brand. And the fundamental reason behind this appointment is to guarantee a “golden exile” for those who were at the end of their third term and could not re-candidate for President of the Chamber, and to open the doors of the presidency to the number two of the municipality who, being president, would have better conditions for your candidacy in 2025. At the same time, they want to promote someone to be a candidate for Castro Marim. It’s the “art” of politics with a small p.

They do so at the expense of an important service for citizens. We are sorry.
