The PS/Braga, in opposition to the municipal Executive PSD/CDS, lamented today, referring to the ongoing works in the Avenida da Liberdade tunnel and the Ponte swimming pool, that there are delays and budget overruns in everything that is done in the city. But the local mayor, Ricardo Rio, says that the people of Braga have become accustomed to the PS’s exaggerations, ensuring that the projects are within the expected deadlines.

Socialist councilor Artur Feio accused the Executive, at the body’s meeting, of dragging out the two works, with the tunnel not being ready before the São João festivities and the swimming pool before the beginning of the bathing season: “It’s a rule like this. mandates from the majority… the works never finish on time and always cost more money”, he accused, highlighting that it will be the second São João with the tunnel closed and that the pool has been closed for three years.

TO MINHO, the president of the Municipality, Ricardo Rio denied any slippage, saying that the people of Braga have become accustomed to the PS’s exaggerations.

“Delays in the works are normal, because there are always unforeseen events, but, even if the tunnel remains closed, this does not cause great harm to the fluidity of roads and pedestrians during the festivals”, he said, highlighting that the pool will be ready at the end of May and The bathing season only starts in June.

Rates remain the same

At the meeting, it was also voted by majority, with the opposition of the PS and the abstention of the CDU, the maintenance, in 2024, of the tariff of the municipal company AGERE, for water, waste and sanitation, which for the majority is a reduction , if one takes into account the strong inflation of recent years and for the PS, it is little known.

“The company makes an increasing profit, more than seven million per year, so, as it does not invest, there are conditions for this to be reflected in the daily lives of people from Braga, that is, rates can be lowered”, he argued. Arthur Ugly.

The mayor of the CDU, Vítor Rodrigues, although corroborating the socialist criticisms, abstained, as he understands that maintenance is not negative for citizens and because AGERE still has to make large investments, especially in a new Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
