A player from Grupo Desportivo de Monte Real (GDMR) was identified by the PSP after insulting and threatening the match referee, for preventing him from playing, for wearing a nose ring, a piece of jewelry prohibited in football by regulations.

According to a statement from PSP, everything happened in a football match played on Saturday, the 27th, at Campo da Charneca.

The meeting brought together the Friends of Peace Recreational Group (GRAP) and the GDMR.

At half-time, with the referee team heading towards the access tunnel to the changing rooms, “a fan”, according to the PSP document, “with a visibly altered and intimidating tone of voice” insulted and threatened the referees.

The “supporter” ended up identifying himself as a GDMR player, explaining that the reason for the verbal attack came from the fact that the referee had prevented him from playing because he had a piercing in his nose.

The athlete affiliated with the Leiria Football Association was “duly identified by the PSP”, at the request of the referee, and left Campo da Charneca “being aware of the administrative and criminal liability that may arise from his conduct”.

The incident was sent to the Court and to the Authority for the Prevention and Combat of Violence in Sport, and the authorities once again call for “respect for the most basic standards of sporting experience and fairplay”.
