The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of killing an 84-year-old man in Vinhais on April 17, that force announced today.
In a statement, the PJ states that the events occurred on a public street, when the defendant allegedly attacked an 84-year-old man, pushing him and throwing him against the ground, causing injuries that led to his death.
Lusa contacted a source from the district command of the National Republican Guard (GNR), who confirmed that they were called that day for a alleged assault in a commercial establishment, a cafe, in the town of Rebordelo. When the military arrived, the victim was being assisted by the medical team from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).
The GNR also stated that the suspect was no longer at the location, but was identified by the authorities shortly afterwards. The following day, the guard contacted the hospital in Bragança, where the elderly man was transported, and it was possible to determine that he was in a serious condition.
The elderly man ended up dying, without it having been possible to determine the specific date so far. The investigation was transferred to the PJ.
The detainee, suspected of murder, will be subject to judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures.
