Municipality of Azambuja celebrates the XXV Month of Bullfighting Culture

The Municipality of Azambuja once again celebrates, in the month of May, the already traditional “Month of Bullfighting Culture”. The twenty-fifth edition will take place between the 1st and 22nd of May, and will culminate with the Azambuja May Fair, the most traditional of Ribatejo festivals.

During this month full of activities linked to bullfighting, visitors will be able to enjoy various exhibitions, talks, shows and other initiatives promoted by the Azambuja City Council in partnership with several local entities.

The event will begin on May 1st, a public holiday, with a presentation of the exhibitions in the Auditorium of the Centro Social Paroquial de Azambuja, followed by a performance by the Escola de Sevilhanas Las Hermosas, which celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Among the main exhibitions planned are the “Taurus Murus” exhibition with large canvases throughout the streets of the town, the exhibition “In search of the treasure of the May Fair” at the Municipal Library, and the photography exhibition “The May Fair ” at Praça de Touros Dr. Ortigão Costa.

Throughout the month there will be colloquiums, a bullfighting photography fair, Sevilhanas shows, processions, masses and equestrian events, with emphasis on the VI Festival de Escolas de Sevilhanas and the Galgueira do Centro Association championship.

The program also includes a session of “Toureiro a pé commented” with the bullfighting critic Maurício do Vale, and to finish, a dance with the band “Compis Del Cante” and a vacada.

These initiatives are organized by the Azambuja City Council in partnership with several local entities, such as the Associação Cultural A Poisada do Campino, the UTA-União de Tertúlias de Azambuja, the Tertúlia Festa Brava and the Centro Hípico Lebreiro de Azambuja, promoting bullfighting culture. and the Ribatejo tradition in the region.
