The Liberal Initiative wants to hear in parliament “as a matter of urgency” the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, due to the “financial framework” of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa and the “need for a profound restructuring” of the institution.

Minister Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho’s call to parliament will be voted on on Thursday and the Liberal Initiative stated, in a statement, that it hopes “that there will not be a new understanding between PS and PSD to block the investigation of the truth, not ruling out, Therefore, use all the means at your disposal to ensure that all necessary clarifications are provided.”

The announcement of the minister’s hearing request comes on the day that the Government made public the dismissal with immediate effect of the current administration of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML), led by the provider Ana Jorge, former socialist Minister of Health and former -president of the Portuguese Red Cross.

“This request for a hearing is due to the financial situation in which SCML finds itself, in part due to exposure to the internationalization of games, the set of contradictions that have been conveyed by different managers, former and current, of the institution regarding investments made by SCML, as well as the need for a profound restructuring that the government itself demanded from the now exonerated provider”, the Liberals explain in a statement.

The party adds that the request adds to others to hear seven other personalities in the same context, including the former minister of guardianship Ana Mendes Godinho, the dismissed ombudsman Ana Jorge and his predecessor in the position Edmundo Martinho.

The PS also said today that it will request an urgent parliamentary hearing from Ana Jorge and the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security to explain the Government’s decision.

The administration of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa was dismissed “with immediate effect” by the Government, which justified the decision because the team “revealed itself incapable of facing the institution’s serious financial and operational problems”.

The SCML was currently headed by the former socialist Minister of Health Ana Jorge, who served as ombudsman for around a year, with the remaining SCML Board made up of a deputy ombudsman and four members.

“Unfortunately, this decision became inevitable because the Board, now outgoing, proved to be incapable of facing the institution’s serious financial and operational problems, which could in the short term compromise the fundamental task of social action that it is responsible for”, he explained. the executive in a statement.

The news of the dismissal of the SCML Board was initially announced by SIC, after the newspaper ‘Público’ reported today that the executive had requested an urgent restructuring plan from the institution’s administration.
