In the month of May, the Cine Clube de Viseu organizes the cycle “O Cinema que Provoca”, which proposes films that raise various themes and concerns and that reveal “the sense of discovery”.

This Thursday (2nd), the film “Vincent Must Die”, directed by Stéphan Castang, tells the story of a designer who sees his life turned upside down when he is attacked by people who want to kill him. it. Without finding an explanation for all the violence, the protagonist will have to change his entire life and try to survive.

On May 9th, Cine Clube presents “As Ervas Secas” by Nuri Bilge Ceylab. This film, which won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival, portrays a close-knit community, power dynamics and the darkest regions of the human soul through the story of a middle-aged professor who is obsessed with a student.

On the 16th, “A Flor do Buriti”, by João Salaviza and Renée Nader Messora, is shown, which won the Casting Prize at Cannes. The drama covers three periods in the history of the Krahô people, an indigenous community that lives isolated in the interior of a Brazilian forest, through the eyes of a girl.

On May 23rd, “Evil is Not Here” by Ryusuke Hamaguchi arrives, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival and is an ecological tale about the construction of a luxury campsite.

On the 30th, Portuguese director João César Monteiro will be in the spotlight with the film “Silvestre”, based on a popular tale and which tells the story of a man who arranges a marriage for his daughter and who then goes on a journey – a magical journey in that very strange things will not stop happening.

The film will be presented by researcher and programmer Richard Peña, who will also teach on May 31st and June 1st a mini-course on the history of North American cinema between the 30s and 70s of the last century.

The sessions will take place every Thursday, at 9pm, in the auditorium of the Instituto Português do Desporto e da Juventude in Fontelo.
