“Every year, in addition to the structure of the fire brigades, there is a reinforcement during the fire season which we call a special device for fighting rural fires. It consists of an extra set of ground teams. The State finances them through a small salary. Last year, it was 64.20 euros for 24 hours. That is, not even three euros per hour. This year, we are still waiting for the update. The bottom line is not even the remuneration”, he guarantees.

The main problem, he insists, is the lack of “human mass in firefighters”, highlighting the importance of everyone cleaning their land to prevent the spread of flames in the event of a fire.

The president of the Metropolitan Council of Porto and mayor of Gaia, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues, notes the same: “The problem we are having at the moment is recruitment.
