Aldi Portugal has joined SDRetalhistas, which aims to bring together retail and distribution companies in a circular economy system, with the aim of promoting a more efficient packaging recycling process, in order to avoid incineration and landfilling of post-waste -consumption.

SDRetalhistas is an associate of SDR Portugal, a candidate for the concession of the deposit and refund system for plastic and metal beverage packaging.

Aldi Portugal thus joins Auchan Retail, Dia, Lidl, Makro, Mercadona, Mosqueteiros, Pingo Doce and MC Sonae.

“Sustainability is at the heart of Aldi’s strategy, which is why we are increasingly committed to putting into practice environmentally responsible strategies that contribute positively to the promotion of a more circular economy. This is why we consider joining SDRetalhistas important, as it is another step that materializes our sustainable commitment”, says Carlos Pereira, managing director of Finance & IT at Aldi.

For his part, Sérgio Ramos, president of the board of directors of SDRetalhistas, highlights his satisfaction in welcoming Aldi as an associate, a membership “that proves not only the robustness of the solution we present, but also the trust that companies place in SDRetalhistas”. “Together, we will continue to work towards achieving higher and better recycling rates, contributing to achieving the goals to which Portugal is committed”, he assures.
