Eduardo Sengo, executive director of CTA, highlighted the historical importance of trade relations between Mozambique and Portugal, but expressed “concern” about the reduction in trade between the two countries.

Mozambique’s business sector is committed to reversing the downward trend in trade relations with Portugal. According to those responsible for the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), measures are being taken to make the country an attractive destination for the internationalization of Portuguese companies, in addition to offering labor opportunities and other benefits.In addition, Sengo emphasized Mozambique’s potential to meet Portuguese companies’ demand for labor.

Sengo led a mission that brought dozens of Mozambican businesspeople to Porto, Sines and Lisbon, with the aim of strengthening commercial ties.

“It is urgent to revitalize trade relations between the two countries”, stated Eduardo Sengo during his visit to the Port of Sines. stating that “Mozambican exports to Portugal have decreased significantly in recent years, as have imports from Portugal to Mozambique”.

To reverse this situation, CTA intends to establish strategies together with the Portuguese business sector, which has shown interest in internationalization. Sengo mentioned the possibility of a cooperation agreement with the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, in Porto, as part of efforts to attract foreign investment.

Furthermore, Sengo emphasized Mozambique’s potential to meet Portuguese companies’ demand for labor.

During the visit to the Port of Sines, opportunities were identified in the areas of port management and logistics. Eduardo Sengo also highlighted the importance of experience in logistics processes, such as “paperless”, and mentioned the possibility of partnerships with the Port of Sines and companies in Mozambique to share knowledge and experiences.

At the end of the visit, José Luís Cacho, president of the board of directors of the Ports of Sines and Algarve, expressed interest in strengthening commercial relations with Mozambique, ensuring support for both imports and exports between the two countries.
