The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, warned this Monday of “the extremely difficult situation” of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) and rejected any political adjustment regarding the dismissal of the provider Ana Jorge.

“I believe that it is necessary to give the country signs of normality in the functioning of our democracy. There is no political sanitation whatsoever”, said the head of Government, speaking to journalists, on the sidelines of a visit to the Ovibeja agricultural fair, which kicked off today in Beja.

Asked about the situation at SCML, Luís Montenegro even argued that, “whoever talks about political sanitation, perhaps, wanted to guarantee the maintenance of some partisan affinity of the people who are going to leave their positions” in that institution.

“They’re probably worried about that. We [Governo] We are not worried about that, nor is it for that reason that people will be exonerated”, he assured.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa “is in an extremely difficult situation from a financial point of view and from the point of view of guaranteeing and safeguarding its social functions” and that is what the executive wants to resolve.

“There must be, on the part of the guardianship, total harmony with the respective administration in order to comply with the policy guidelines emanating from the new Government”, he stressed.
