The 6th edition of the “Volunteering to the Hills” initiative took place on April 20th, in the Alvão Natural Park, promoted by the Scout Group 295 of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, in partnership with the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests and the Municipality of Vila Real.
In addition to collecting a lot of rubbish and waste, including tires, paper, packaging, among others, the approximately 45 scouts who participated in this initiative also cleaned and restored the amphibian wall. On this day there was also time for learning related to natural engineering and for holding 4 workshops linked to sustainability: – Water filter; – Ecological soap; – Composting; and Renewable energies;
Alexandre Favaios, Vice-president and Councilor for Youth, stated “great achievements are almost always achieved through the virtuosity of small gestures”, adding “through these voluntary actions, as well as others that may happen in the future, the Municipality and the The partners of this initiative intend to raise awareness among visitors to these protected areas about the importance of preserving nature, as well as drawing attention to the need for everyone to make their contribution to reducing this problem by simply placing rubbish in the places indicated for that purpose. and protecting ecosystems, thus contributing to the conservation of species.”
This activity marked the beginning of Youth Month which, in addition to youth volunteering actions, also includes initiatives to promote European values of citizenship, equality and fraternity, information sessions on municipal youth programs and opportunities to create one’s own youth employment, lectures and clarifications regarding the best youth job offers, paths to follow after the 12th year of schooling, recreational educational and sporting activities, Miss and Mister School Gala, Youth Show, Bila Scout Day, among others .
