In a note sent to newsrooms, the Gouveia City Council highlighted that the initiative will bring together in the city, for four days, a panel of judges made up of thirty members to evaluate wines from municipalities across the country.

The jury will be chaired by António Ventura, Portuguese winemaker, current president of the Portuguese Enology Association and consultant at Provintage (winemaking consulting company), a company of which he is the founder.

In addition to the competition, the event includes several initiatives aimed at connoisseurs and the curious.

The municipality highlighted the implementation of tourist and gastronomic initiatives, with emphasis on guided visits to farms, commented tastings of Dão Wines – Serra da Estrela, wine dinners and the gala “IV Concurso Cidades do Vinho”.

There will also be an interpretative walk about biodiversity through the Dão – Serra da Estrela vineyards and a panel discussion on some topics related to wine.

The event, which has the high sponsorship of the Presidency of the Republic, aims to promote the wines of Dão – Serra da Estrela and the entire national territory, as well as the territory of Gouveia and Dão Serra da Estrela.

The “Wine Cities” competition is a joint organization of the Association of Portuguese Wine Municipalities (AMPV) and the Association of Wine Routes of Portugal (ARVP), with the support of the Gouveia City Council and the Wine in Moderation program.
