The Municipal Assembly of Tondela approved the authorization to take out a bank loan of more than 8.4 million euros to carry out various projects, such as road works and the requalification of the Sangemil Baths.
According to the president of the Tondela City Council, Carla Antunes Borges, this bank loan will be used to carry out works considered a priority.
The loan safeguards, for example, the protocols signed with the Center’s Regional Coordination and Development Commission within the scope of the new community support framework (PT2030) and other lines of financing for the construction of affordable homes and for the 1º Direito program .
“This is an initiative to monitor the community framework. Our intention is to use all available mechanisms to submit applications to finance some works”, he explained.
The social-democratic mayor guaranteed that the process will be carried out responsibly: “our idea is to proceed with the loan as financing becomes available”.
Payable over 20 years, the loan will be divided into five lots. The first (3.3 million euros) will be used to finance investments in the municipality’s road network, namely the requalification, maintenance, widening and repair of roads in the municipality’s 19 parishes, works at Ponta da Tabuaça and the completion of the road connection between Sá Carneiro and Comunidades avenues, in Tondela.
The second lot (2.1 million euros) will be used in the requalification and rehabilitation works of the Sangemil Thermal Spa (Lajeosa do Dão) and the third lot (1.8 million euros) in the expansion of the Lajedo Industrial Zone (Santiago de Besteiros) and in the acquisition of land for the creation of the new Business Reception Area in Borralhal, next to Planalto Beirão.
The purchase of land for the construction of municipal housing stock and the acquisition of buildings for rent will be made with the help of the fourth lot (594 thousand euros).
The fifth lot (510 thousand euros) will be used to finance the purchase of solar panels for municipal buildings, the acquisition of a light vehicle adapted to transport people with reduced mobility, the creation of a Matilhas Park and the renovation works of the changing rooms at Tondela Secondary School.
