The Dengue epidemic that has been plaguing Brazil in an unusually aggressive way since the beginning of this year has killed at least 2,072 people until this Tuesday. The numbers, revealed this Tuesday by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, are the highest since monitoring of this disease began, 24 years ago.

To give you an idea of ​​the aggressiveness of Dengue in 2024, last year, which until now held the record for deaths, the disease killed 1094 people. In other words, in just four months of this year, Dengue has already killed almost a thousand more people than in the entire 12 months of 2023, and there is still a long way to go until the end of this year.

In the first four months of last year, when there was also a strong Dengue epidemic but without the gigantic dimensions of the one that is plaguing Brazil this year, the total number of deaths from the disease was 671. In other words, this year, in During the same period, the dangerous disease killed another 1,401 people.

Until this Tuesday, also according to data released by the Ministry of Health, the number of Dengue cases in the 27 states of Brazil was 4,176,810, also the highest recorded in the last 24 years. In the first four months of 2023, the total number of cases had been 989,924, four times less than this year.
